Why stay in Panagia, Thassos?
Panagia is a traditional mountain village on the northeast side of Thassos, below Mount Ipsarion and above Golden Beach. Stone houses, slate roofs, plane trees, springs, and narrow lanes give it a character that feels distinctly different from the island's coastal resorts.
Staying here means mornings can begin in the village and reach the sea within minutes. In the evening, guests return to tavernas, cooler mountain air, and a quieter rhythm while remaining close to Limenas and the east-coast beaches.
A car is recommended for exploring Thassos. It makes beach-hopping, ferry connections, supermarkets, archaeological sites, and inland villages much easier, while Panagia itself is best explored on foot.

Days out
Four ways to explore from Panagia.
Golden Beach and Skala Potamia
The broad bay below Panagia is the easiest choice for swimming, beach cafés, family-friendly shallows, and relaxed evenings beside the sea.
Limenas and ancient Thasos
The island capital combines the ferry port, harbour restaurants, shops, and archaeological remains including the ancient agora and theatre.
Mountain villages and walking
Panagia, Potamia, Theologos, and Kazaviti reveal the greener inland character of Thassos, with traditional architecture, springs, and routes toward Mount Ipsarion.
Alyki, Giola, and the south
Allow a fuller day for the archaeological setting and coves at Alyki, the natural rock pool at Giola, and the longer scenic drive around the island.
Thassos is most commonly reached by ferry from Keramoti or Kavala. From Keramoti, the crossing to Limenas is about 35 minutes, and Panagia is then roughly 10 minutes by car.
The nearest airport is Kavala (Chrysoupoli). Thessaloniki and Alexandroupolis also work well for longer road or international travel combinations.
For many guests, Panagia is part of the appeal: traditional lanes, tavernas, slightly cooler evenings, and a stronger sense of place than the more anonymous beach-strip areas.
